Our Int'l. Impact

Habitat for Humanity is a non-profit organization that works to facilitate housing solutions for families with limited financial resources in over 70 countries around the world.  Wabash County Habitat for Humanity is proud to be a tithe partner to Habitat for Humanity El Salvador.  In El Salvador, approximately 944,000 families live in inadequate conditions, and 29.6% of all households live in poverty conditions.  95% of the population is vulnerable to be affected by some type of risk, be it volcanic eruptions, floods, earthquakes, dengue fever, or violence.  Habitat has worked since 1992 in El Salvador, providing more than 22,000 housing solutions and benefiting more than 110,000 Salvadorans.

In July of 2015, one of our founding Board members, Brad Yoder, travelled to El Salvador to experience a volunteer opportunity at the Habitat work camp there.  Habitat homes in El Salvador cost approximately $8,000.00 in U.S. funds and typically consist of concrete block construction with structural steel reinforcement, lattice "Solaire" windows, metal doors, cement tile floors, a patio, and a perimeter fence that protects the house from erosion.  Brad and other volunteers worked to prepare the floors for cement tiling, and he very much enjoyed building relationships with the Salvadorans and the other volunteers he had the pleasure of working with.

The working model of Habitat for Humanity El Salvador uses housing as a means to help families overcome poverty.  Families find in the organization a tool to improve or build a house, resulting in a significant improvement in their living conditions.  The home becomes the catalyst that contributes to the holistic development of the family, impacting positively their welfare, education and overall health.

Wabash County Habitat is proud to be a partner in that growth and development.  To learn more or to find out how you can help, contact Becky at the Habitat office at 260-563-9188.
